Critical Care Medicine

Critical care medicine, also known as intensive care medicine, focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of critically ill patients with imminently life-threatening conditions, requiring close monitoring and life-sustaining/life support interventions in a dedicated unit such as an ICU (Intensive Care Unit).  Conditions managed and treated by an Intensivist often include disorders such as acute respiratory failure, sepsis, septic shock, post operative complications, severe trauma, gastrointestinal bleeding, organ failure and myocardial infarction.  As well as being a Board-Certified Pulmonologist and Sleep Medicine physician, Dr. Jason Shatkin is triple-board certified in Critical Care as an Intensivist, evaluating and treating patients in the hospital or intensive care unit setting.  Dr. Shatkin’s primary goal is to prevent morbidity and stabilize critically ill patients, maximizing their chances of recovery.  He currently treats patients in Valley Hospital’s ICU in Paramus, NJ.
